On Wednesday 2026-03-18 we will start an online upgrade of the storage system that contains users home directories and all project storage directories under /proj/nobackup.

/proj/cfl_nobackup will NOT be affected.

The upgrade will temporarily cause reduced performance and delays when accessing the file system.

To minimize problems with batch jobs the queues will from time to time be stopped from starting new jobs, but submitting new jobs will still work.

We will try to keep the impact to a minimum.

We are upgrading Kebnekaise compute and login nodes to Ubuntu Noble.

This will result in some older softwares to not be available anymore. We've tried to build everything that is currently used but when that isn't possible there should be newer versions available instead.

The ThinLinc access to kebnekaise-tl.hpc2n.umu.se is now working again.

The login node behind it has been upgraded to Ubuntu Noble (24.04)

We have moved the kebnekaise.hpc2n.umu.se login host to a new machine.

This machine has a different SSH host key: SHA256:PpomhGO7eeljmDUdcp9sJGm/8Ek1sTEOTP+BwSRQrRQ

You may have to change or remove the old entry for the Kebnekaise login node from the known_hosts file. On Linux (and usually also macOS) you find this file under the directory .ssh/ in your home directory. On Windows it will be under %UserProfile%\.ssh

The entry for the Kebnekaise login node could begin with any of these in your known_hosts file

we are doing some maintenance on Kebnekaise starting 2025-12-10 07:00.

Everything will be down, no jobs running and login nodes disabled.

This will take the whole day and we expect to have things up and running again late on the evening the same day.
